Benefits of Walgreens Prescription Savings Club

Do you know that Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network?  Yes, you read it right.  Check out the story of Walgreens and Express Script distpute.  Hence, all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide is no longer part of Express scripts as of January 1, 2012.  This is the result of the unsuccessful negotiations of Walgreens with Express Scripts with regards for a new contract which expired on Dec. 31 to continue as part of its pharmacy provider network.  Because of what happened, pharmacy patients and costumers were forced to go elsewhere to use their in-network pharmacy benefits which is inconvenient and was unnecessary.  They're the ones suffering due to this situation.  Express Scripts’ actions are causing disruption with no significant benefit to patients or their health plan. Patients covered by an Express Scripts plan now find themselves not only having to change their pharmacists, but many are having to drive farther to get prescriptions filled at pharmacies with less convenient hours for their hectic schedules.  Walgreens offers more 24-hour and drive-thru pharmacies than any other pharmacy in the country.  Even those in military were affected with this situation because Tricare is Express Scripts’ clients, and which is the health and prescription drug program for America’s military service men and women.   

The decision of Express Script causing inconvenience to their pharmacy patients, employees and costumers.  Nonetheless, Walgreens is helping to ease the burden by offering a special discount on annual membership through Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.  This offers discount pricing on your medications for family members.  Other benefits includes, savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications, discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies and bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photofinishing services.
