Muay Thai from Thailand – a combat sport on the rise

Muay Thai (also known as Thai Boxing) is a martial art with long tradition in Thailand. Its origins date several hundred years ago and its main purpose was one on one fight using nothing but the body as a weapon. The history of Muay Thai is a real mystery for today’s researchers and one of the main reasons for that is the fact that the Burmese invaders ransacked Ayudhaya (which was once cultural and administrative center of Siam/Thailand) in the 14th century. They have destroyed everything that got in their way including temples and libraries that were found in the city. Only small parts of those books were saved and they are now considered to be national treasure of Thailand.

Muay Thai uses the whole body of the fighter which is trying to imitate weapon ready for war. The legs can symbolize axes or bats while the arms symbolize swords and daggers. Elbows and knees are also used during the fight.

Although it was once used as a martial art, Muay Thai today is a combat sport and a recreational activity practiced throughout the world. People from various countries are participating in Muay Thai training sessions but they also travel to Thailand and join some of the dozens Muay Thai training camps there. Of course their popularity is rising because Thailand is the homeland of Muay Thai and it is considered that the best way to learn Muay Thai is to learn it there.

What makes Muay Thai interesting is that anyone can join the training sessions , you can check video of Suwit muay thai . Even people with no experience and people that are not fit can start training. Those who want to take part of some Muay Thai competitions can do that after a period of training and learning some techniques. Muay Thai has become one of the most popular recreational activities in the world. Joining a Muay Thai camp can help you with your self-confidence, self-discipline, weight loss (especially burning fat) and your overall health.

Muay Thai camps in Thailand have long history of working with both recreational and professional students and they have developed programs for each category, that’s why the best option for those who want to learn Muay Thai and feel its benefits is to go to Thailand and join one of these camps.

I doubt I'll ever make it to Thailand and also doubt that I will ever attempt to learn this. It does look interesting and I might want to watch a competition at some point.
